A kinder table for the whole neighborhood.
SharePlates exists to reduce food waste and to help neighbors support one another — making it easier to be a conscious consumer in a time when both food and connection feel harder to come by.
Every plate posted is a small act: leftovers that don't go in the bin, groceries that find a home before they spoil, a home-cooked meal shared with someone who needed it that day. Multiply that by a whole community, and it adds up to something real.
Less waste
Surplus meals and groceries get eaten, not tossed.
More care
Neighbors looking out for neighbors, plate by plate.
Conscious living
Small everyday choices that match the world we want.
What's coming next
We're hoping to grow SharePlates beyond the app and into the real world by hosting EatIn events — community gatherings centered on food, generosity, and connection. Early ideas include:
Community food-share events
Pop-up gatherings where neighbors bring extras to share, swap, and take home — no money exchanged.
EatIn potlucks
Hosted meals where the whole table is contributed by the community, with seats saved for anyone who needs one.
Pantry rescue drives
Coordinated pickups of close-to-expiry groceries from local shops, redistributed the same day.
Cooking circles
Small group sessions where experienced home cooks teach simple recipes that stretch a budget.
Have an event idea or want to help host one in your area? We'd love to hear from you.
How we keep the table safe & kind
Sharing food with neighbors works because everyone shows up with care. Our guidelines cover safe food handling, allergy disclosure, respectful pickups, and how we handle reports.
- Be honest about ingredients and allergens
- Share food you'd serve your own family
- Respect pickup windows and locations
- Treat every neighbor with kindness
